Mission Statement

Mission:

The Outback is dedicated to providing a positive and enriching environment in New Canaan where teens want to relax, to socialize, to participate in self-directed activities, and have the opportunity to contribute to the community.

Organizational Goals:
1. Provide a safe, comfortable well-supervised facility where a diverse group of teens want to socialize in a positive, alcohol-free and drug free environment.
2. Foster and encourage teen-managed activities through which the teens can develop leadership qualities, interpersonal skills and involvement in the broader community. Deliver the highest quality programs while maintaining affordability, balance and equity across grades, genders and interests.
3. Investigate outside funding sources, including the potential for partial funding and support, and manage the annual operating and programming expenses with revenue generated at the facility through external fundraising activities.
4. Recruit, train, develop and retain a staff of knowledgeable, creative and responsive people to interact with and supervise Outback users.
5. Explore opportunities in the community to maximize usage of the facility when not in use by teens.
6. Transfer the management and operational responsibilities to the Director, Staff, and SGB. Create and document operating processes of the Outback to ease transition and ensure long term viability.
